As hard as it is to tell you this, we have come to the conclusion that we are unable to offer our overnight camp or canoe tripping programs this summer. I know that right now everything seems to be moving in a positive direction. However there is still a great deal of uncertainty about how the Province’s Roadmap to Reopen might unfold and this has motivated our decision to run day camp only for 2021.
Day camp programs will be able to open once the Province reaches STEP 1. Overnight camps fall within STEP 2 of the framework. We know what the vaccination thresholds are, however, we don’t know when these thresholds will be met. And once they’re met, we will be required to wait two weeks prior to reopening. All of this makes it difficult to create an accurate timeline as to when and if we might be able to open overnight camp.
If we were exclusively an overnight camp, we could simply wait and carve out a timeline for reopening as more information becomes available. However we feel that an operational decision needs to be made now so that we can run a successful day camp program this summer. We need time to pivot and expand our program to accommodate those of you who want to switch from overnight to day camp. We simply can’t wait any longer.
So what happens now? Every registered overnight camper who wants a spot can have one for the same Monday to Friday week or weeks that they were registered for overnight camp. This includes canoe trips. Day camp busing will be offered to anyone who lives within our transportation area, or for those who can get to a bus. You will also have the option to drop off and pick up your campers at camp. For campers who cannot attend, or do not wish to attend as day campers, a credit or refund will be issued. Details on how to move forward with your camp plans can be found here.
We ask that you take the weekend to decide how you’d like to proceed with your summer plans. I know that campers and families might be disappointed initially, but we believe that day camp this summer is better than no camp.
Many of you have reached out with words of support and kindness over the past 14 months and I want you to know how much this has meant to us. So many of our campers were looking forward to ‘Resi’ this year and I truly regret having to come to this decision. Our overnight program represents a big part of who we are as a camp and I look forward to building it back up again in the future.
Thank you again and please contact us with any questions you have.
